Zelfvoorzienend Off-grid Cursus

Selfsufficient off-grid course

Are you going to build a tiny house, would you like to have a free shower for three quarters of the year, ecologicly (re)build your house or place in an ecovillage, or just live more sustainable and climate aware? Then this (currently Dutch spoken) course is for you.

Reserve a place

In this course Selfsufficient off-grid you learn all basic concepts behind ecological insulation, solar collectors, rainwater harvesting, water filtering, constructed wetlands, compost toilets, solar panels and more. Sustainable alternatives are given for the basic needs for warmth, energy, water, toilet - you will learn the how and why.

Especially for (future) tiny house residents, all examples in this course are targeted at regular tiny house dimensions. After this course you've made a huge step forwards in the many choices that you have to make on the earea of warmth, water, shouwering, toilet drain etc. This course is also suitable if you want to make your home more sustainable, or if you want to create a new house as sustainable and energy neutral as possible.

To set the subjects into a sustainable context, the introduction will discuss some permaculture and climate change principles. To add more context, you can subscribe to the facebook group after the lesson. This group is created because at the end of the course there is often the need to stay in contact which each other, to exchange practical experiences and new developments. Who knows we will in the future organise mini excursions to interesting places too.

As you said yourself, the information on this subject is not very accessible and it requires a lot of study(time) to grasp all aspects of selfsufficiency. I'm often bored during a course, but this time that was absolutely not the case.

What do I know after the course Selfsufficient Off-grid

After this course you have saved months of research and you will know enough basic knowledge to choose ecological insulation, buy or install a solar tube system, build or buy a stand-alone solar panel system, know the basic terms of a wet land system, know the how and why of a composting toilet and building one, and to decide how to arrange the water storage and filtering system. You will get the right sustainable basic tools to understand all sorts of off-grid systems and how to evaluate the (non)sense of "new" sustainable technology. Some permaculture concepts will help to do this.

The course contains a lot of terms, but the emphasis is on a higher level. It is nice to know what a MPPT controller does -more or less- but it is far more important that you get the general idea of a solar panel system. After the course you will know a lot, including:
  • the difference between ecologic and sustainable
  • how surprisingly unimportant solar panels are and how important solar tubes
  • how many liters of water you can boil with solar panels
  • why you would choose floor heating instead of any kind of electric or woodstove heating
  • why you would choose for a compost toilet
  • when a composting toilet may get smelly
  • how many rainwater falls on a tiny house on average
  • why you would prefer flexible woodfiber over wool
  • how to calculate the thickness of a wall due to the bouwbesluit
  • how many electricity you can generate and what you nevertheless can do with it
  • ....and a lot of other i.
  • how a helophyte filter works

I am so grateful for your course, and for the depth and completeness of everything you presented. It is really impossible to gather this together through internet. I am also very gratefull for your e-mail accessibility afterwards and for that you even called me back when I requested that.

Who is the teacher?

Niels Gorisse is the builder of the Strohplatz parcel in Germany. For this he researched off-grid components for many years, followed many courses, and has put almost everything into practice. He also lived in a camper. You will notice that is very delighted to share these experiences.
